Hostname Change

There are 4 steps in a hostname change, luckily all the steps are easy.

Sysconfig/Network

Open the /etc/sysconfig/network file with your favorite text editor. Modify the HOSTNAME= value to match your FQDN host name.

Hosts File

Change the host that is associated to your main IPaddress for your server, this is for internal networking (found at /etc/hosts):

Failure to connect to DataStage services tier: invalid port

When you attempt to start one of the DataStage clients, the following message is displayed:

Failed to authenticate
the current user against the selected Domain:  Could not connect to
server [servername] on port [portnumber].

Failure to connect to DataStage services tier: invalid host name

When you attempt to start one of the Datastage clients, the following message is displayed:

Failed to authenticate the current user against the selected

Domain: Server [servername] not found.

Checks & Solution :

You might be specifying an incorrect name for the computer that is hosting the services tier.

You can check whether the application server is running by attempting to connect to the application server using an Internet browser.

What Service is Running on which Port in Windows

Finding out what application is running on a specific port in Windows is easy by using two command line utilities. By using netstat with the proper switches you can list out all of the ports that are being used and then use Tasklist to list all of the applications that are running. The combination of the two utilities will allow you to figure out which application us using which port.

Starting a Queue Manager

Before we can use a Queue Manager, we need to start it, using the STRMQM command. The command to start a Queue Manager called QMA is:

$ strmqm QMA

You should see output similar to the following on your screen:

WebSphere MQ queue manager 'QMA' starting.

2108 log records accessed on queue manager 'QMA' during the log replay phase.

Log replay for queue manager 'QMA' complete.

Transaction manager state recovered for queue manager 'QMA'.

WebSphere MQ queue manager 'QMA' started.

Create/start/stop a Queue Manager

To create a Queue Manager, our userID needs to be part of the mqm group. If we do not have the appropriate authority, then we need to ask our MQ administrator to issue this command.

The command to create a Queue Manager is CRTMQM and there are various parameters available with this command:

crtmqm [-z] [-q] [-c Text] [-d DefXmitQ] [-h MaxHandles]

[-g ApplicationGroup] [-t TrigInt]

[-u DeadQ] [-x MaxUMsgs] [-lp LogPri] [-ls LogSec]

[-lc | -ll] [-lf LogFileSize] [-ld LogPath] QMgrName

WebSphere MQ commands

In this section, we look at the WebSphere MQ commands we need to set up and administer the MQ environment. The following table lists the V6 WebSphere MQ commands:

amqccert	Check certificate chains		mqftrcvc	Receive file on client
amqmdain	WebSphere MQ services control		mqftsnd	Send file from server
amqtcert	Transfer certificates		mqftsndc	Send file from client
crtmqm	Create Queue Manager		rcdmqimg	Record media image

Clean ReStart of the IBM InfoSphere DataStage Engine

If you suspect some Client sessions did not cleanly end or disconnect, you can perform a clean restart to make sure the DataStage Engine is starting from scratch. Please make sure all clients are logged off and no jobs are running before performing the below steps.

Restoring IBM Information Server components [DataStage]

If you backed up the files, directories, and databases associated with IBM Information Server, you can restore these components to recover your data in the event of hardware failure or other disaster.

This task assumes that you are starting on a clean computer on which IBM Information Server has not been installed. It also assumes that the host name of the computer is identical to that of the computer on which the backup was performed and that all components are being restored in the exact same location that they originally were in.

Backing up IBM Information Server components [DataStage]

You can back up the components of IBM Information Server to ensure that you can recover your data in the event of hardware failure or other disaster.

During installation, you are prompted to create an installer response file. It is useful to generate this file and store it in a backup location. If you need to reinstall IBM Information Server, you must use the same configuration as the original installation. If you have a copy of the installer file, you can pass the response file to the installer from the command line.

Cleaning the DataStage Server

Below are the list of the things you will have to do to safely clean and restart your server.


The first task (in UNIX and WINDOWS) that you will have to perform is to stop the Datastage services.  The services that have to be stopped are the dsrpc service,  dstelnet service, DSEngine service,  ASBAgent service and Logging Agent service.

How to start/stop the DataStage Services in Windows with batch (.bat) file

Normally, When we install the datastage in Windows, It installed a Service in Control Panel called “DataStage”. For stopping and starting the DS services we have to double click on it and press the button Start/Stop. 

As this is not open with the admin rights, you can face the issue while starting or stopping the services like – Access Denied.

Service Agents in DataStage

1) ASB Agent

ASB agent is a Java background process run on the server or on the computer where the DataStage engine and client tiers are installed. When a service that runs on the Service tier receives a service request that needs processing on Information Server components then this agent receives this request and pass it on.

In Linux, it is running as daemons that are named ASBAgent.
In Windows, running as services that are named ASBAgent.
