ETL Testing : Approach
Testing is undoubtedly an essential part of DW life-cycle but it received a few attention with respect to other design phases.
DW testing specification:
– Software testing is predominantly focused on program code, while Software testing is predominantly focused on program code, while DW testing is directed at data and information DW testing is directed at data and information. .
– DW testing focuses on the correctness and usefulness of the information delivered to users information delivered to users
– Differently from generic software systems, DW testing involves a huge data volume huge data volume, which significantly impacts performance and productivity.
– DW systems are aimed at supporting any views of data, so the possible number of use scenarios is practically infinite and only few them are known from the beginning.
– It is almost impossible to predict all the possible types of errors that will be encountered in real operational data.

Datastage Common Errors and Solutions
1. While running ./NodeAgents.sh start command... getting the following error: “LoggingAgent.sh process stopped unexpectedly”
SOL: needs to kill LoggingAgentSocketImpl
Ps –ef | grep LoggingAgentSocketImpl (OR)
PS –ef | grep Agent (to check the process id of the above)
2. Warning: A sequential operator cannot preserve the partitioning of input data set on input port 0
SOL: Clear the preserve partition flag before Sequential file stages.

ETL Job Design Standards - 1
When using an off-the-shelf ETL tool, principles for
software development do not change: we want our code to be reusable, robust,
flexible, and manageable. To assist in the development, a set of best practices
should be created for the implementation to follow. Failure to implement these
practices usually result in problems further down the track, such as a higher
cost of future development, increased time spent on administration tasks, and
problems with reliability.
Although these standards are listed as taking place in ETL
Physical Design, it is ideal that they be done before the prototype if
possible. Once they are established once, they should be able to be re-used for
future increments and only need to be reviewed.
Listed below are some standard best practice categories that
should be identified on a typical project.

CentOS - Hostname Change
Hostname Change
There are 4 steps in a hostname change, luckily all the steps are easy.Sysconfig/Network
Open the /etc/sysconfig/network file with your favorite text editor. Modify the HOSTNAME= value to match your FQDN host name.Hosts File
Change the host that is associated to your main IPaddress for your server, this is for internal networking (found at /etc/hosts):Monday, October 28, 2013
DataStage Scenario - Problem2
Goal : To get the Unique and Duplicates values from Input Data
Input :
There is a input file which contains duplicates data, Suppose :Friday, October 25, 2013
DataStage Scenario - Problem1
Goal :
Process a text file which contains records arranged in blocks consisting of a header record, details (items, body) and a trailer. The aim is to normalize records and load them into a relational database structure.Details :

DataStage - Problem when running large parallel jobs on Windows
If you have large parallel jobs (8.1)
running in Windows environment then it is worth checking the servers event log.
You could find an error related to Nutcracker.exe. An administrator with access
right on the server can see the events logs.
Nutcracker error could come up while running very heavy jobs where total cpu utilization is upto or above 90% and server starts using virtual memory. This is just an example of the impact of running large parallel jobs in Windows server. Hence to make the system somewhat full proof following changes can be done in Windows registry. The idea is to tune the TCP/IP buffer, increase the heap size and set the virtual memory to the recommended amount.

Killing Ghost Processes in DataStage
how to kill GHOST datastage processes that can result if you are disconnected from the network while you have a datastage object opened. This results in not being able to open a job
1) Logon to DataStage server using a telnet tool like Putty with your DataStage userid
2) Run the following command:
