I am sharing this IBM tip on Cognos here again as it helped my from a big trouble :-) , Thought for a worth sharing ......
Cause
1. A separate, standalone version of Informix is installed on the host (or leftovers are found in the Windows registry)
2. IBM Cognos Express has been installed and reinstalled and the Informix registry entries were not removed properly.
3. The Windows user "informix" is present on the host because Informix had been installed on the system in the past.

A SQL Client Tool - TeraData Studio Express
Teradata Studio Express is a graphical Java program, developed on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP), that will allow you to view the structure of a JDBC compliant database, browse the data in tables, issue SQL commands etc.
This is a nice tool which can connect many DBs like Aster database, DB2 for LUW, DB2 for i5/OS, DB2 for z/OS, Oracle, SQL Server, Generic JDBC connection and of course TeraData DB.

How to install Linux / UNIX *.tar.gz tarball files
tar.gz also known as tarball, an archive format for electronic data and software. Most Linux tarball contains a source code for software. If you are new to Linux I recommend using apt-get, rpm and yum command to install all binary packages.
Tarballs are a group of files in one file. Tarball files have the extension .tar.gz, .tgz or .tar.bz2. Most open source software use tarballs to distribute programs/source codes.

Converting .rpm Packages To Debian/Ubuntu .deb Format With Alien
This article shows how you can convert .rpm packages to
.deb packages with a tool called alien so that you
can easily install them on Debian and Ubuntu systems. Sometimes this is quite
convenient as not all software projects release their software as Debian/Ubuntu
packages.
However, you should keep in mind what the alien man page
says:

Oracle Interview Questions - Part-3
51. What is a database instance? Explain.
A database instance (Server) is a set of memory structure and background processes that access a set of database files. The processes can be shared by all of the users. The memory structure that is used to store the most queried data from database. This helps up to improve database performance by decreasing the amount of I/O performed against data file.
52. What is Parallel Server?
Multiple instances accessing the same database (only in multi-CPU environments)

RPM Commands in Linux
Install an RPM Package
RPM
packages have file naming conventions like package-5.1-7.i868.rpm, which
include the package name (package), version (2.0), release (4), and
architecture (i386). Also notice that RPM understands FTP and HTTP protocols
for installing and querying remote RPM files.
rpm -ivh package-5.1-7.i868.rpm
rpm -i
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/RPMS/package-1.0-1.i386.rpm

DataStage Configuration file : Explained - 2
1. When configuring an MPP, you
specify the physical nodes in your system on which the parallel engine will run
your parallel jobs. This is called Conductor Node. For other nodes, you do not
need to specify the physical node. Also, You need to copy the (.apt) configuration
file only to the nodes from which you start parallel engine applications. It
is possible that conductor node is not connected with the high-speed network
switches. However, the other nodes are connected to each other using a very
high-speed network switches. How do you configure your system so that you will be able to
achieve optimized parallelism ??
1.
Make sure that none of the stages are specified to be run on
the conductor node.
2.
Use conductor node just to start the execution of parallel
job.
3.
Make sure that conductor node is not the part of the default
pool.

DataStage Configuration file : Explained - 1
The Datastage configuration
file is a master control file (a textfile which sits on the server side) for
jobs which describes the parallel
system resources and architecture. The configuration file provides
hardware configuration for supporting such architectures as SMP (Single machine with multiple CPU
, shared memory and disk), Grid ,
Cluster or MPP (multiple CPU, mulitple nodes and dedicated memory per
node). DataStage understands the architecture of the system through this file.
This is one of the biggest strengths of Datastage.
For cases in which you have changed your processing configurations, or changed
servers or platform, you will never have to worry about it affecting your jobs
since all the jobs depend on this
configuration file for execution. Datastage jobs determine which node to run
the process on, where to store the temporary data, where to store the dataset
data, based on the entries provide in the configuration file. There is a
default configuration file available whenever the server is installed.
